This rule detects successful user sign-ins to Azure AD from IP addresses located outside of New Zealand and Australia, where the User-Agent string matches a known list of suspicious user agents. It filters out common legitimate user agents to reduce false positives.
Detects the use of lifecycle hooks in `.devcontainer/devcontainer.json` files to execute potentially malicious commands. Adversaries can abuse hooks like `postCreateCommand` or `postStartCommand` in development environments like GitHub Codespaces to automatically run scripts upon container creation. This can be used to exfiltrate secrets, such as GitHub tokens, or establish further access.
Detects Kerberos service ticket requests (TGS) for canary Service Principal Names (SPNs). Any request for a ticket to a canary SPN is highly indicative of a Kerberoasting attack (T1558.003) or other reconnaissance activity, as these accounts have no legitimate purpose. Creation of Canary SPNs can be found here: https://github.com/fluffybunnies-h4x/CyberDeception?tab=readme-ov-file#creating-a-canary-spn-account
Detects attempts to access the sensitive Clawdbot/Moltbot configuration file (clawdbot.json or moltbot.json). This file contains API keys and gateway tokens. Unauthorized access, often resulting from prompt injection attacks, can lead to full agent and system compromise.
Detects when a new Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method is registered shortly after a successful sign-in from an unfamiliar or risky location. This pattern is a strong indicator of an Adversary-in-the-Middle (AiTM) attack where the threat actor, having bypassed MFA to gain initial access, immediately adds their own authentication method to establish persistence on the account.
This rule detects suspicious activity related to browser credential theft or staging. It triggers when a non-browser process accesses sensitive browser files (like 'Login Data' or 'Local State') or when temporary artifacts associated with credential stealer activity ('chromeTmp', 'Local State-journal') are created. This behavior is indicative of an attacker attempting to exfiltrate browser-stored credentials.
Detects authentication attempts (successful or failed) against designated canary user accounts. Any such attempt is highly suspicious as these accounts have no legitimate purpose and indicate credential theft or discovery activity. Creation of Canary Accounts with scripts and other strategies can be found here: https://github.com/fluffybunnies-h4x/CyberDeception?tab=readme-ov-file#canary-accounts
This rule detects suspicious activity related to accessing or dumping the NTDS.dit file, which contains Active Directory credential information. It looks for process creation events involving tools commonly used for NTDS.dit extraction (e.g., ntdsutil, secretsdump), file access events on NTDS.dit paths, and privilege use (SeBackupPrivilege, SeRestorePrivilege, SeDebugPrivilege) often associated with credential dumping.
This rule detects a multi-stage attack chain starting with a high-confidence phishing email, followed by a risky sign-in from the recipient, and culminating in sensitive actions within Azure, specifically targeting IAM role assignments, storage account key access, or AKS cluster modifications. The detection correlates these events within a defined time window to identify potential compromise of cloud resources originating from a successful phishing attack.
Detects the use of GDB (GNU Debugger) to dump the memory of a running process. This technique is used by frameworks like ShadowHS to extract credentials and other secrets from live processes without writing traditional credential dumping tools to disk.
Detects when a user flagged as 'high risk' by Azure AD Identity Protection lists storage account keys. This could indicate a compromised account is being used to access sensitive data or escalate privileges.
Detects the creation or modification of a browser extension's manifest.json file configured to inject a script into the 'MAIN' world context of chatgpt.com. This technique allows the extension to bypass the isolated content script environment, hook native APIs like window.fetch, and steal session tokens, as seen in a campaign targeting ChatGPT users.
This rule detects the XenoRAT info stealer and Remote Access Trojan (RAT) by identifying specific strings related to its functionalities. It looks for configuration parameters like 'HostName', 'PortNumber', 'UserName', and 'Password' which are typically supplied at runtime for C2 communication. The rule also identifies strings associated with browser data exfiltration ('Local Extension Settings', 'Sync Extension Settings', 'chromium_plugins', 'logins.json', 'profiles.ini', 'IndexedDB', 'chrome-extension_'), crypto wallet theft ('ChainingModeGCM'), file grabbing capabilities ('%DRIVE_FIXED%', '%DRIVE_REMOVABLE%', 'File Grabber'), and HVNC-style desktop control ('Chrome_WidgetWinOperaWindowClass', 'CreateDesktopA', 'OpenDesktopA'). Additionally, it includes specific hashes of known XenoRAT samples for direct identification.
This rule detects suspicious activity related to mailbox access within Office 365. It has two main parts: 1) Identifies users accessing a high number of unique mailboxes belonging to other users. 2) Identifies users accessing a high number of unique folders within another user's mailbox. Both scenarios can indicate unauthorized access, data exfiltration attempts, or compromised accounts.
Detects attempts to modify Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) configuration files. Attackers may modify PAM configurations to bypass authentication, such as by adding `pam_permit.so` or changing module control flags from `required` to `sufficient` or `optional`.
Detects attempts to exploit the SmarterMail authentication bypass vulnerability (WT-2026-0001) by sending a POST request to the /api/v1/auth/force-reset-password endpoint with 'IsSysAdmin' set to 'true'.
This rule detects suspicious activity related to mailbox access within Office 365. It has two main parts: 1) Identifies users accessing a high number of distinct mailboxes belonging to other users. 2) Identifies users accessing a high number of distinct folders within another user's mailbox. Both parts are designed to flag potential unauthorized access, data exfiltration, or reconnaissance activities within an Exchange Online environment.
This query detects suspicious sign-in activity from a user who has recently clicked on a phishing link. It correlates email click events with sign-in logs, identifying sign-ins from new or infrequent IP addresses after a user has interacted with a suspicious email. The rule uses configurable parameters for sender email addresses, sender domains, and subject keywords to identify phishing emails.
This rule detects successful sign-ins that used single-factor authentication and were flagged by Azure AD Identity Protection for having unfamiliar properties, such as a new location, device, or ASN. Single-factor authentication is inherently weaker, and when combined with anomalous sign-in properties, it can be an indicator of a compromised account.
Detects HTTP POST requests to the Appsmith password reset endpoint where the 'Origin' header does not match the expected internal or legitimate application domain. This is indicative of an attempt to exploit CVE-2026-22794 to achieve account takeover.
This rule detects logon events from Windows Admin Center (WAC) virtual accounts where the associated user principal name (UPN) belongs to an external or unknown tenant. This activity is a key indicator of compromise for CVE-2026-20965, where an attacker uses a forged token from an external tenant to gain unauthorized access.
