Detects the pattern of UAC Bypass using .NET Code Profiler and mmc.exe DLL hijacking (UACMe 39)
Detects the creation or modification of the Windows Terminal Profile settings file "settings.json" by an uncommon process.
Aversaries may use to interact with a remote network share using Server Message Block (SMB).
This technique is used by post-exploitation frameworks.

This query was originally published in the threat analytics report, ironSource PUA & unwanted apps impact millions.
IronSource provides software bundling tools for many popular legitimate apps, such as FileZilla. However, some of ironSource's bundling tools are considered PUA, because they exhibit potentially unwanted behavior. One component of these tools, detected by Microsoft as Prifou, silently transmits system information from the user. It also installs an outdated version of Chromium browser with various browser extensions, resets the user's home page, changes their search engine settings, and forces Chromium and itself to launch at startup.
The following query can be used to locate unique command-line strings used by ironSource bundlers to launch Prifou, as well as commands used by Prifou to install Chromium.

Intent:
- Use MTP capability to look for insider threat potential risk indicators
- Indicators would then serve as the building block for insider threat risk modeling in subsequent tools
Definition of Insider Threat:
"The potential for an individual who has or had authorized access to an organization's assets to use their access, either maliciously or unintentionally, to act in a way that could negatively affect the organization."
This collection of queries describes the different indicators that could be used to model and look for patterns suggesting an increased risk of an individual becoming a potential insider threat.
Note: no single indicator should be used as a lone determinant of insider threat activity, but should be part of an overall program to understand the increased risk to your organization's critical assets. This in turn is used to feed an investigation by a formal insider threat program to look at the context associated with the whole person to understand the implication of a set of indicators.

Attempts to access unattend.xml, where credentials are commonly stored, within the Panther directory where installation logs are stored.
If these files exist, their contents will be displayed. They are used to store credentials/answers during the unattended windows install process

Detects suspicious .NET assembly executions. Could detect using Cobalt Strike's command execute-assembly.
This detects file modifications to ASPX and ASHX files within the root of the App_Extensions directory, which is allowed by a ZipSlip vulnerability in versions prior to 23.9.8. This occurs during exploitation of CVE-2024-1708.
Detects the creation of files with the ".rdp" extensions in the temporary directory that Outlook uses when opening attachments.
This can be used to detect spear-phishing campaigns that use RDP files as attachments.

Detects WerFault creating a dump file with a name that indicates that the dump file could be an LSASS process memory, which contains user credentials
Detects a file ending in jse, vbe, js, vba, vbs written by cscript.exe or wscript.exe
Detects the creation of file with specific names used by RemoteKrbRelay SMB Relay attack module.
Detects the creation of new DLL assembly files by "aspnet_compiler.exe", which could be a sign of "aspnet_compiler" abuse to proxy execution through a build provider.
Detects the creation of hidden file/folder with the "::$index_allocation" stream. Which can be used as a technique to prevent access to folder and files from tooling such as "explorer.exe" and "powershell.exe"
Detects the creation of an "Active Directory Schema Cache File" (.sch) file by an uncommon tool.

This query was originally published in the threat analytics report, CVE-2020-0601 certificate validation vulnerability.
The Windows CryptoAPI Spoofing Vulnerability, CVE-2020-0601, can be exploited to spoof code-signing certificates. For example, an attacker could forge a certificate that lists Microsoft as the issuer. This would allow an attacker to disguise a malicious executable as legitimate.
The vulnerability was patched with the January 2020 Security Update.
Use the following query to locate files containing ECC certificates that might have been forged using this vulnerability. The query identifies files that don't correctly identify the signer name, yet list Microsoft as the root signer.

This query make a best-guess detection regarding which removable media device caused an AV detection.
The query is best run over 30 days to get the full USB history.
Get a list of USB AV detections. This assumes any path not beginning with C is a removable/USB device.

Search for the files that are using a compromised certificate associated with the Nobelium campaign.
You can remove the comments to:
1. get the list of devices where there is at least one file signed with the certificate
2. get the list of files signed with the certificate
3. get the list of files signed with the certificate group by Devices
