Detects cmd.exe spawned by a python.exe or pip.exe process with a command line invoking netstat or calc.exe. Matches the payload behavior described for the malicious redpy_demo PyPI package, whose __main__.py used Python's subprocess module to execute these commands via cmd.exe automatically at module invocation, without any direct victim interaction with the payload.

Detects a node/npm/npx process writing to a Unix shell startup file (.zshrc, .zprofile, .bashrc, .bash_profile) immediately after package install activity. STARDUST CHOLLIMA (DPRK-nexus) used stolen maintainer credentials to compromise the Axios npm package and deliver platform-specific "ZshBucket" malware, and separately injected a malicious dependency into 131 Mastra AI framework packages. Malicious postinstall scripts modifying shell profiles is a persistence mechanism consistent with this campaign's naming and delivery pattern.

The following analytic detects the execution of `powershell.exe` with command-line arguments used to enumerate domain users via the `Get-DomainUser` command. This detection leverages data from Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) agents, focusing on process names and command-line executions mapped to the `Processes` node of the `Endpoint` data model. This activity is significant as it indicates potential reconnaissance efforts by adversaries or Red Teams using PowerView for Active Directory discovery. If confirmed malicious, this could allow attackers to gain situational awareness and identify valuable targets within the domain, potentially leading to further exploitation.

The following analytic detects the use of the `[Adsisearcher]` type accelerator in PowerShell scripts to query Active Directory for domain computers. It leverages PowerShell Script Block Logging (EventCode=4104) to identify specific script blocks containing `adsisearcher` and `objectcategory=computer` with methods like `findAll()` or `findOne()`. This activity is significant as it may indicate an attempt by adversaries or Red Teams to perform Active Directory discovery and gain situational awareness. If confirmed malicious, this could lead to further reconnaissance and potential lateral movement within the network.

This analytic detects the execution of the ConvertTo-AADIntBackdoor command via PowerShell Script Block Logging.
The ConvertTo-AADIntBackdoor command is part of the AADInternals toolkit, which is used primarily for security testing and administrative tasks in Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) environments.
This particular command is designed to create a "backdoor" in a federated Azure AD domain.
When executed, ConvertTo-AADIntBackdoor modifies the federation settings of a domain by adding or changing the federation configuration to allow an attacker to control the authentication process.
This manipulation enables the creation of security tokens that can impersonate any user within the Azure AD tenant.
Consequently, this allows an attacker to bypass Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), escalate privileges, and maintain persistent access to the Azure AD environment.

The following analytic detects the use of the PowerShell cmdlet `export-pfxcertificate` by leveraging Script Block Logging. This activity is significant as it may indicate an adversary attempting to exfiltrate certificates from the Windows Certificate Store. Monitoring this behavior is crucial for identifying potential certificate theft, which can lead to unauthorized access and impersonation attacks. If confirmed malicious, this activity could allow attackers to compromise secure communications, authenticate as legitimate users, and escalate their privileges within the network.

The following analytic detects the usage of PowerShell Cmdlets - New-WebGlobalModule, Enable-WebGlobalModule, and Set-WebGlobalModule, which are used to create, enable, or modify IIS Modules. This detection leverages PowerShell Script Block Logging, specifically monitoring EventCode 4104 for these cmdlets. This activity is significant as adversaries may use these lesser-known cmdlets to manipulate IIS configurations, similar to AppCmd.exe, potentially bypassing traditional defenses. If confirmed malicious, this could allow attackers to persist in the environment, manipulate web server behavior, or escalate privileges.

Detects obfuscated shell command execution on VMware ESXi as hunted by CrowdStrike, where attackers hide esxcli commands (e.g. syslog config reset for log evasion, vm process list for recon) behind decode-and-execute wrappers such as printf hex/octal escapes, awk BEGIN blocks (chr/ord/xor/zero-width-unicode/morse/binary decoders), python -c chr() reconstruction, sed/od character-reversal ciphers, and $TERM/$SHELL substring reassembly, frequently invoking /usr/lib/vmware/busybox/bin/busybox or staging output in hidden /vmfs/volumes//.sys files before piping the reconstructed command into sh.
This is a living-off-the-land technique used to evade detection and hinder forensic reconstruction of attacker activity on ESXi hosts, and has been observed enabling syslog exfil-log evasion and VM/hypervisor reconnaissance.
