When, for example, a printer, camera, IoT appliance, or other device suddenly makes outbound connections to countries such as China, Russia, or Iran, this may not be noise. The following detection helps identify connections from these specific device groups that we were not previously aware of and that could be exfiltrating information.
This rule detects network connections to external hosts exhibiting a specific JARM fingerprint (27d40d40d00040d00042d43d00041df04c41293ba84f6efe3a613b22f983e6) that has been associated with a phishing campaign, specifically targeting Harbor Freight. JARM fingerprints are used to identify unique TLS server configurations, and this particular hash indicates a known malicious infrastructure.
Detects outbound HTTP GET requests consistent with Lumma Stealer's browser fingerprinting activity. This activity involves contacting a C2 endpoint at '/api/set_agent' with specific URL parameters ('id', 'token', 'description') to register the victim and gather system information.
This rule detects Command and Control (C2) communication associated with the Amatera Stealer malware. It specifically looks for TLS traffic where the Server Name Indication (SNI) field contains the string "aether100pronotification.table.core.windows.net". This SNI is considered bogus and indicative of Amatera Stealer's C2 activity.
Detects outbound network connections to a specific .onion domain associated with the 'Tsunami Payload' component of the 'Contagious Interview' campaign, which uses the Tor network for command and control (C2) communications.
This rule detects network traffic to specific JSON storage services (jsonkeeper.com, jsonsilo.com, npoint.io) that have been observed to be abused by the DPRK-linked 'Contagious Interview' threat actors for malware delivery. The detection is based on TLS Server Name Indication (SNI) patterns.
The query below correlates device inventory, IP assignment and network events to identify internal endpoints attempting to connect to routers — including whether they succeeded and via Web or Application access. Attack traffic often aligns with failed HTTP/HTTPS attempts or unknown device names.
Detects potential command-and-control (C2) activity associated with Lazarus Group malware, such as Cryptoistic. This rule identifies outbound TCP connections that do not appear to be using a standard application-layer protocol like HTTP/S, which is a characteristic of some custom backdoors used by the group. The rule filters for successful outbound TCP connections with an empty RemoteUrl, excluding private IP ranges and a allowlist of common processes. It further prioritizes processes running from suspicious user-writable locations and requires more than two connection attempts to reduce noise.
ET MOBILE_MALWARE Observed Klopatra Domain (adsservice2 .org) in TLS SNI
This detection identifies network traffic to domains explicitly listed as associated with recent phishing campaigns. It specifically looks for these domains within the RequestURL field of logs from Palo Alto Networks or Cato Networks firewalls/proxies.
NKN is a networking service using blockchain technology to support a decentralized network of peers. While there are legitimate uses for it, it can also be used as a C2 channel. This rule looks for a DNS request to the ma>
Syncthing is a peer-to-peer file synchronization utility, designed to sync files between devices on a local network or between remote devices over the Internet.
This utility to exfiltrate data, has been already abused to exfiltrate data by Malicious actor.
The following KQL Query detect connections to external IPs via the mentioned software and the corresponding country.

ET MOBILE_MALWARE Observed Klopatra Domain (adsservices .uk) in TLS SNI
ET MOBILE_MALWARE Android/TrickMo.Banker POST Request
Detects common shell processes launching a reverse shell using the '/dev/tcp' redirection. This technique is known to be used by adversaries like the Clop ransomware group for persistence and command and control.
ET MALWARE LeakyStealer CnC Checkin
This rule detects HTTP traffic originating from a client within the home network to an external Cloudflare tunneling service (specifically, domains ending in '.trycloudflare.com') where the User-Agent header indicates 'Microsoft-WebDAV-MiniRedir'. This combination suggests potential command and control activity or data exfiltration using WebDAV over a Cloudflare tunnel, often employed by adversaries to bypass network restrictions and obscure their infrastructure.
ET INFO Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) Tool in DNS Lookup (gorelo .tech)
This rule detects the 'Get-ScheduledTask' PowerShell cmdlet within the HTTP response body, specifically when the HTTP status code is 200. This could indicate an attacker enumerating scheduled tasks on a compromised system via a web-based command and control channel or data exfiltration.
